19 is Weird...

So far 19 has been the strangest combination of courage and confusion.

Yeah, that's the best way to summarize how I feel right now. It's that awkward transition from teen to adult, high school to college, no job to part time, dreams to reality, and living with family to living on my own.

The hardest part about being 19 (and 18) (for me) the transitions I listed above. I went from hating my graphic design major during freshman year, to loving and learning how to thrive in my gifts as a creative. From never having a job, to being apart of a department that not only inspires, but believes in me and the talents I aspire.

This year I have been taught, critiqued, counseled, guided, and mentored.

19 for me has (so far) been the greatest breakthrough of my life. I'm nowhere near ready to tell you "this is what I want to do for the rest of my life and this is how I'm going to get there". But, I can tell you I am on track.

It's time to push myself even further.

Something Pretty to Share

I often get comments about how put together my life seems. Yikes! This week I was actually stopped in mid conversation with someone asking myself "do people really think that?" Being around the internet for so many years, my use of blogging and photography has built certain habits in me. I naturally share the pretty things. It’s kind of sad to think that sometimes we browse instagram or facebook and feel like others have a happier or prettier life than our own. No, I do not have my life figured out. But from photography to any other creative thing, I do love what I do and I’m very thankful for that.

With a passion for an ambitious creative process, I focus on sharing and evoking life into confident photos, as well any other internet posts. Do not fall into the trap of believing that anyone else has an easier/better/more beautiful life than you do.

Enjoy and put to use the talents you do have.
Because everyone does have a story to tell and something pretty to share. Don't take instagram, facebook, or blogging so serious. Have fun and stay cute.

Weekendgrams

Memorial Day Edition!
And what a LONG weekend it has been!

On Saturday my dearest friend Abby moved! Instead of 30-40 minutes away.. she now lives 15-20. Talk about happy! BabeD8s with @teendoll @thefloralfox have been reinstated after many weeks apart! Here's to many more summer adventures.

Spontaneous trip with @allybrasko to visit my family in Cabot because our evenings allowed. Hello fire pit hang out!

Saturday was finally the day! Haley and Tyler headed to the chapel!! What a beautiful day it was. I've posted many MANY previews on facebook these past few days. Like my page so you don't miss a thing!

This weekend we lit up the new set change for the very first time. What a blessing it has been to be apart of @newlifechurchtv set change. This is seriously one of our most favorite projects across all of our churches. It's a huge honor and privilege to prepare our house for our guests. Genesis 24:31 says, “Come in, blessed of the Lord! Why do you stand outside since I have prepared the house...” That is the stance we proudly take. We are preparing His house so that people can gather to worship, hear the word and honor Jesus.

Monday was my day off for the first day in a really long time. And this is where I sat. All morning long.
The afternoon came and eighteen people I dearly love filled my backyard!

As the evening press on... an intense game of Catch Phrase began, of course.

All in all... a crazy, but very relaxing (fun filled) weekend. I do believe summer is officially here. And I look forward to many more nights just like this. Having my home full of friends really does do my heart well!

Oh, and flowers too. A home full of fresh flowers :)

Happy Tuesday! How was your four day weekend?

Dream Better

by Joanna Waterfall of Waterfall Creative

Figure out who your ideal client is // Then FIND them! If your business works with individuals, who are they? What industry do they work in, who do they jam out to on their ipod, where do they live? Once you know this- go out and FIND them! Where are these people hanging out? Are they reading a certain blog? Then YOU need to be reading that blog. Are they at a particular networking event? Then YOU need to go to that event and meet them all! Your clients are out there- you just need to know where and get to know them.

Dream up your ideal business situation // Then take ONE step towards it. Do you have employees? Do you have a set schedule? Make your own schedule? How much money are you making? Where is your office located? If your dream is to work with a team- ask around and see if someone you could see yourself working with would be up for collaborating on a project. See if a local college student would like to come along with you on that engagement shoot you’re doing this weekend. Doing these things will give you experience in working with others, allow you to network and move towards your goal of working with others in your business. It’s ONE step closer to your dream! Whatever it is you dream up for your business, see if you can take just one step towards it. Wether that be learning about it, starting a savings account towards it, or even DOING it if you can. If you can’t- what do you need to do to get there? Then do that.

Dream up the coolest project ever // And DO it. Personal projects are one thing I miss about college so much. Doing work without any clients telling you how to do it. Ah, a dream for any creative person! Guess what? You have a business. Create something for that! Be your own client and make some RAD stuff without anyone holding you back! Have you always wanted to do a photo shoot in a certain place styled a certain way? Grab some attractive friends and make it happen. No one is stopping you. It will be an amazing portfolio piece and guess what- you’ll probably attract people who like what you did which means… more awesome work similar to what you would do with no one telling you what to do. BAM. Your portfolio builds and now you have your niche. And you had a blast creating it!

It was when Joanna said "dream up the coolest project ever and DO it" that I found myself so inspired. I have been pursuing photography for four years now. I've never really made a big deal about it. I took some classes, job shadowed a few photographers in my hometown. I created a facebook page back in high school called "Alissa Claire Photography" and that was it. People would schedule me to take their family photos. Ask me to work with them on senior pics. Book me to film their wedding. They would let me capture the moments of their surprise proposal. It was because of the ones who supported me when I wasn't even sure what I was pursuing, it is because of those opportunities they initially gave me, that is why I love doing what I do.

I started meeting with a few mentors back in February of this year, talking about the dream business. I began talking with a few of my graphic designer friends. We came up with logos. I built price sheets for inquires. I filled up my bedroom wall with magazine clippings of the photography, fonts, branding, etc that felt like me! What I wanted my business to be. I dreamed day and night of launching this business. I'm quite sure my friends were getting tired of hearing me go on and on about it. But the thing is.. I always had their support from the very first day I pitched the idea. I got wrapped up in classes, exams, and term papers this semester. After all the talk, all the planning, the dreaming.. I put my project aside. Now weeks later I stumbled across her blog post. And I DID it. I had everything set up for the past month. The logos, the write-ups, etc. I just had to put myself out there. And let my friends, family, past clients, and future clients know that I'md doing this. Fully committed.

With a passion for photography and an ambitious creative process, Alissa Claire Creative will focus on telling and evolving stories into confident photos, video, or design. I started Alissa Claire Creative with big ambitions and a desire to dedicate my wildest ideas and creative thoughts into my clients. I am so very thankful and blessed to now spend my days doing what I love most!

So Joanna, THANK YOU for giving me that little push I needed. I had those first two steps of my dream done, I just needed to take the third step.. and DO it :)

I ended up emailing Joanna about a month ago and sharing a bit of my adventure with her. She had some very wise advice to share with me that I would love to share with all the other dreamers out there.

Remember to hold fast when times get hard (cause they will!) and to keep working toward that dream- don't let anything or anyone stop you and you will go far :)

Congrats Class of 2013!

I'm finding it hard to believe it has already been twelve months since I walked across that stage at Verizon arena. And today I will watch some of my very best friends and cousin do the same walk I did this time last year.

I had no clue what I was getting myself into. Or what adventure would come after my high school days were over. But I think Jenna Fischer (Pam Halbert) quoted it best on the series finale of The Office last night..

"Be strong, trust yourself, love yourself, and conquer your fears..
Go after what you want and act fast. Because life just isnt that long."

Weekendgrams

After a long and busy week of finals, summer is finally here! My weekend started off on a slow foot as I spent Friday night at home alone editing photos.. reading texts from my mom as she made fun of me for my choice of a Friday night.

I don't mind. Ten years from now I won't have the choice to spend Friday nights at home alone, editing photos, watching Netflix, and doing what I want to do.. so I take advantage of the opportunity now with full happiness!

Saturday was busy busy thought! My first wedding of the summer kicked off that morning in downtown Little Rock! It was a cold and rainy one, but I enjoyed every much enjoyed assisting photographer Lyndsey Sullivan!

The wedding ceremony was held in an upstairs loft. Eat your heart out.. I'm still eating mine.

Sunday. A ferris wheel ride followed by clogged arteries from eating fried things. A fried milkyway to be exact. Conway Toad Suck day w/ @teendoll @hunterairheart and @joshuap1 (follow on insta). The best afternoon with friends! And first Toad Suck Conway experience: check. Yet another happy Sunday!

For A Home

I've lived on Thompson Street for six / almost seven months now. WOW.. that time has flown by!

Kelsey (my roommate) is a doll. She has given me full reign to do whatever I want with our home whenever I want! But decorating has been put on the back burner. Just like every woman these days.. instead of actually DOING.. I spend my time PINNING.

Oh Pinterest, how I have a love / hate relationship with you.

Since last December, I have been planning (pinning) the looks and likes of a home. I doubt this home could ever be my home on Thompson Street. In fact, I hope it's a home that comes years down the road with rooms for a family-to-be.

But I can dream in the waiting! So today I share with you all my Pinterest board featuring my favorite colors!

Photos and their sources can be found here. In the mean time, here's what my home on Thompson Street does look like! I took this instagram a few months back in the midst of spring cleaning. It's a home sweet home, for sure! Full of giggling roommates, endless episodes of The Mindy Project or Grey's Anatomy, and a record player that spins our favorites, such as Ellie Goulding, FUN, and Taylor Swift featuring Kelsey's girl anthem, 22 :)

Happy weekend!
